Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are examining a gun violence incident that unfolded on the evening of April 18 at Howe Community Park while Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were breaking up an Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 unauthorized event of several hundred people.
Background
Deputies first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park shortly before 6:30 PM after receiving reports of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. After that, additional information came in regarding a potential altercation unfolding within the park grounds.
Aerial units scanned the area from the air but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Despite this, authorities discovered that a massive group had congregated at Howe Park without official sanction.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Officers set about removing people from the park by surrounding the park and making announcements instructing the crowd to leave immediately. Roughly 15 minutes were given for attendees to disperse.
As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the night. The rapid succession of shots triggered a stampede. Officers quickly moved to finding those who had been shot.
Four Gunshot Victims
In total, four individuals were confirmed as gunshot victims. The victims — including a female and three males each apparently in their 20s — were taken to area medical facilities. Doctors and nurses noted that two victims were in serious condition, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one suffered minor injuries. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District also responded and helped care for the four victims before they were taken to the hospital.
Evidence at the Scene
The bulk of the shooting appears to have happened on the Cottage Way corridor near the Home Depot store at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Law enforcement investigators recovered extra shell casings along Cottage Way. Round impacts were discovered in the iron fence bordering the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries pointed to that a shooter had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area aimed at the Home Depot store. That Home Depot location was put under lockdown as a precaution. Crime scene technicians and detectives kept processing evidence for hours.
Detainees in Solano County
Intelligence received through law enforcement radio communications established that a Kia had been stopped in Solano County California. Four occupants were stopped and detained. Deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to collect the individuals for further questioning. Video that was reviewed made clear that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
